Africary Gasification expert on LCK knowledge-sharing mission

Leigh Creek Energy has welcomed Africary Technical Manager Johan van Dyk, who visited LCK for a peer review before his company’s own In-Situ Gasification (ISG) operations begin in South Africa.

The visit also featured discussions furthering the companies’ recently-signed Heads of Agreement (HoA) for future technical collaboration and possible use of LCK’s Pre-Commercial Demonstration (PCD) plant for Africary’s Theunissen ISG project in South Africa.

Dr van Dyk is an internationally recognised coal expert, a renowned coal gasification specialist and the Co-Chairman of Gasification at the International Pittsburgh Coal Conference.

His Adelaide visit added to his in-depth familiarity of the industry and offered an opportunity to better understand the state’s approval processes during discussions with the state government regulator.

“It’s worth noting the interest and support from South Australia’s regulator, which has relied on scientific research and strict environmental and safety guidelines, has helped to make LCK’s ISG operations a success,” Dr van Dyk said.

“Africary is excited to collaborate and exchange technical knowledge with Leigh Creek Energy, because the company has proven itself to be among the leaders in implementing ISG technology with its successful PCD operation.”

LCK Managing Director Phil Staveley said he is pleased LCK’s pioneering of the ISG industry towards commercial operations is attracting the attention of internationally renowned experts.

“Dr van Dyk’s visit to Australia is a sign that LCK is trailblazing a path to commercial success for ISG in Australia and around the world,” Mr Staveley said.

“It’s also a sign that the South Australian regulator is providing an ISG safety and environmental blueprint that is world class and trusted to deliver results commercially while supporting local communities and stakeholders.”
